Women Busted for Having Cocaine "Diapers"
Summary: Two women were busted at JFK airport for an interesting crime. Flying to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic, Priscilla Pena and Michelle Blassingale's trip went downhill quick. After going through customs, agents took Pena aside after a drug dog alerted agents that something was suspicious. Agents then proceeded to search through her luggage. According to the agents, Pena had been acting nervous the whole search. Finding nothing of importance, the agents then asked for permission to do a pat-down. Pena agreed, but upon doing the pat-down, the agents felt something unusually solid around her torso and bottom. Upon further investigation, it was found that Pena had been wearing a "diaper" that was holding almost 7 kg of cocaine. After she was arrested, Pena informed the agents that she was traveling with Blassingale. Agents then searched Blassingale who was found to be in the same situation as Pena. Blassingale is in custody and Pena was released on a $150,000 bond.
Significance: I think that this event has a sort of international significance about it because it involves two countries, the U.S. and the Dominican Republic. It deals with citizens of the Dominican Republic who were traveling to the U.S. In addition, this story has an even more local significance. Who knows what would have happened if the women had not been busted? Their cocaine could have been sold to hundreds of people. These people could range between old, drug addicts to young, insecure teenagers, endangering tons of lives.
Response: I think that this story is very hilarious. I do not know how someone could been so unintelligent to think that they could get away with a cocaine diaper. It also must have been extremely uncomfortable on the flight since the "diaper" would have prevented the women from using the bathroom. Also, I am glad that authorities caught them because it saves a lot of people from becoming drug addicts and doing potential harm to themselves.
